Ramapo College Receives Regional & National Recognition

As the state’s premier liberal arts college, Ramapo College of New Jersey was recently acknowledged by a number of regional and national organizations with top rankings, awards and accolades. These recognitions continue to demonstrate Ramapo’s leadership in higher education both within New Jersey and across the northeast.

Among these notable recognitions were:

  • Ramapo was named among the top three higher education institutions in New Jersey (behind Princeton and Stevens Institute of Technology), and the top public college in New Jersey, in College Choice’s ranking for 2017-2018. College Choice also ranked Ramapo’s undergraduate social work degree program as one of the nation’s Best Bachelor’s in Social Work.
  • The College was once again ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best Regional Public Universities in the North category, as part of the national magazine’s 2018 America’s Best Colleges ranking program. Ranking criteria continued to distinguish Ramapo as an institution dedicated to small class size, a strong first-year retention rate and loyal support from alumni.
  • Ramapo was also is listed in Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine among the “100 Best Values in Public Colleges.”
  • Victory Media recognized Ramapo as a “Military Friendly School” in its Guide to Military Friendly Schools.
  • Ramapo was featured on CollegesofDinstinction.com, a website dedicated to honoring schools nationwide for their excellence in student-focused higher education. The College was also recognized for its value among liberal arts colleges and for its campus housing.
  • The John Templeton Foundation named the College to its Honor Roll for “Character-Building Colleges,” recognizing institutions that emphasize character development as an integral aspect of the undergraduate experience.

While a public institution, Ramapo College is sometimes viewed as a private college, due, in part, to its unique interdisciplinary academic structure, the size of its student body (approximately 6,000) and its pastoral setting in the foothills of the Ramapo Mountains on the New Jersey/New York border.

Established in 1969, Ramapo College offers bachelor’s degrees in the arts, business, humanities, social sciences and the sciences, as well as in professional studies, which include business, education, nursing and social work. In addition, the College offers courses leading to teacher certification at the elementary and secondary levels, and offers graduate programs leading to degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, Educational Technology, Educational Leadership, Nursing, Social Work and Special Education.
