2025 FIFA Club World Cup Team Spotlight: Atlético de Madrid

The next team participating in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup that will be in the spotlight is Atlético de Madrid. The club plays in La Liga, which is the highest level of football in Spain. The club is based in Madrid, Spain.

Founded in 1903, the club holds a lengthy history within La Liga. The team holds a rivalry with Real Madrid and Barcelona, the two most renowned teams in the league. The success of those teams shouldn’t undermine Atlético de Madrid’s, however, as they have accumulated 11 La Liga titles.

In addition to their 11 league titles, the club has had their fair share of success in international play, as well. They have won the European Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup three times, in addition to many other accolades. One tournament that they have not yet won is the FIFA Club World Cup.

This will be the club’s first time competing in the tournament, so they lack the experience that many others have. This does not mean they should be counted out, though, as they currently stand at 3rd in the La Liga standings with a record of 20 wins, 10 draws and 6 losses, behind just Real Madrid and Barcelona. Atlético Madrid has consistently proven to be one of La Liga’s best teams year after year and now they will have the opportunity to put their skills on displays for teams across the globe.

The club’s continued success in La Liga has led them to rally one of the country’s largest fanbases. They play at Riyadh Air Metropolitano, which holds a capacity of 70,692. The team has called it home since the 2017-18 season.

As Atlético de Madrid makes their FIFA Club World Cup debut, they should not be a team that is overlooked. Their historic legacy in La Liga proves that they can go toe-to-toe with any club from across the world. Could these newcomers find themselves atop the podium this summer? If so, they will be coming to the Meadowlands, where the final match will be hosted.
