2025 FIFA Club World Cup Team Spotlight: Fluminense FC

The next team that we will be looking at that will be playing in the Meadowlands this summer is Fluminense FC. The soccer club will be competing in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, playing two group stage matches for the competition at MetLife Stadium. They will be taking on Borussia Dortmund on Jun. 17 and Ulsan HD on Jun. 21.

The club hails from Brazil, more specifically the neighborhood of Laranjeiras in Rio de Janeiro. Founded in 1902, it is the state’s oldest soccer club, leaving it with a long history within the sport.

The team competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Sèrie A, which is Brazil’s first tier of soccer, as well as Campeonato Carioca, which is the state league of Rio de Janeiro. The word ‘fluminense’ is the title given to people born in the state of Rio de Janeiro, connecting the team to the citizens of the area in which it inhabits.

The team has been crowned crowned national champions four times, with their most recent win coming in the 2012 Campeonato Brasileiro Sèrie A. The team has displayed prior success in the competition, placing second in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup Final, looking to earn a victory in the championship match this year.
