The next team that will be participating in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup that we are going to be taking a look at is Manchester City F.C. The club will not be playing at MetLife Stadium for their group stage matches, though, they are a team that could be making an appearance in the Meadowlands for the final match.
Manchester City is an English football club, which plays in the Premier League, the highest tier of the country’s football system. They currently stand at 5th place in the league, with a record of 15 wins, 6 draws and 9 losses, though last season they finished at the top of the standings.
The team is among the most favored to win the tournament, as they are currently the reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions. In 2023, Manchester City took down Fluminense FC in the championship to become the winners of the tournament.
Founded in 1880, the club has a rich history within the country of England, explaining why it is one of the country’s most renowned club teams. They play at Etihad Stadium, which holds a capacity of 53,400 people.
The club has seen much success over their history, though in recent years they have reached new heights. Much of this success can be attributed to the club’s manager, Pep Guardiola, who is widely considered to be one of the best managers in the sport’s history.
Since his arrival in 2016, Manchester City has won six out of a possible seven league titles. In the 2018-19 season, the club completed the domestic treble, winning all three of the major English football tournaments. More impressively, in the 2022-23 season, Manchester City had one of the club’s best years, assembling the rare continental treble after winning the Premier League title, FA Cup final against rivals Manchester United and the Champions League title against Inter Milan.
The club is lined with talent, including Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, though one of its key pieces over the past few seasons has been striker Erling Haaland. In his first season with the club, Haaland recorded 36 goals, setting the club record for the most goals scored in a season by a single player. This season, Haaland has 21 goals and has continued to remain an integral part of the team.
On July 13, MetLife Stadium will host the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final and Manchester City are one of the main teams to look out for. The team will look to win the tournament for the second time in a row.
