Amazon and Hackensack Meridian Health are partnering to bring three primary care offices to the northern New Jersey area.
Amazon One Medical, a hybrid virtual and in-person primary care organization, opened its first office on Tuesday, March 11 at Edgewater Towne Center. The office is the first of three Amazon One Medical locations opening this year in partnership with Hackensack Meridian Health, New Jersey’s largest and most comprehensive health network.
In-Person, Plus 24/7 Virtual Care
“Members have been asking us to open up offices in New Jersey for some time, and we are thrilled to start caring for this community in-person and via our 24/7 virtual care, starting with our Edgewater location,” said Evelyn Chu, MD, District Medical Director for Amazon One Medical in New Jersey.
“In collaboration with Hackensack Meridian Health, we are committed to making it easier for New Jerseyans to improve their health and wellbeing,” Chu added.
The new Amazon One Medical primary care offices will expand access to comprehensive care for New Jersey residents — from preventative care and immediate concerns like cold and flu, to managing chronic conditions like diabetes.
Convenient Locations and Easy App
Amazon One Medical is designed to improve the patient experience at every touch point, including thoughtfully designed offices in convenient locations, same and next-day appointment availability, drop-in lab services, and appointments that start on time.
Amazon One Medical members also have access to 24/7 on-demand virtual care services, including video chats with licensed providers within minutes, and an easy in-app “Treat Me Now” feature that lets members get fast care for common concerns such as allergies, skin issues, urinary tract infections, and more.
“One Medical has been on a mission to help transform health care through its human-centered and technology-powered model to delight people with better health, better care, and better value, within a better team environment,” said Amir Dan Rubin, CEO of One Medical. “We now set our sights on delivering even further positive impacts for consumers, employers, care teams, and health networks, as we join Amazon with its long-term orientation, history of invention, and passion for reimagining a better future.”
With the Amazon One Medical app, it’s easy to access medical records, renew prescriptions, and securely message the care team. The partnership between Amazon One Medical and Hackensack Meridian Health will enable patients to have increased access to seamless coordinated care through Amazon One Medical’s innovative care model and Hackensack’s high-quality network of specialists, hospitals, and facilities.
Seamless Integration, Affordable Pricing
“Hackensack Meridian Health is committed to expanding convenient access to quality care,” said Robert C. Garrett, FACHE, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health. “Many people lack a primary care physician, and our partnership with One Medical offers a convenient solution, seamlessly integrating their services with our award-winning physicians and hospitals.”
Amazon One Medical memberships can be added as a Prime benefit for Amazon Prime members at health.amazon.com/prime for just $9/month or $99/year, or purchased at OneMedical.com. Membership covers access to Amazon One Medical’s convenient technology and on-demand virtual care services at no extra cost, and Amazon One Medical accepts most major insurance plans for in-person care or pre-scheduled Remote Visits.
“We’re on a mission to make it dramatically easier for people to find, choose, afford, and engage with the services, products, and professionals they need to get and stay healthy, and coming together with One Medical is a big step on that journey,” Neil Lindsay, senior vice president of Amazon Health Services, said in a press release last year.
Amazon One Medical also works with over 10,000 employers across all sizes and industries throughout the U.S. who sponsor membership fees as a benefit for their employees and their dependents. In addition to visiting New Jersey offices, Amazon One Medical has offices in over 20 U.S. regions, making it easy for patients to maintain their health when traveling for work or leisure.
Amazon’s deal to acquire One Medical follows its 2018 purchase of the online pharmacy service PillPack, which later became Amazon Pharmacy. Separately, Amazon partnered with JPMorgan Chase and Berkshire Hathaway on an effort to provide better health care services and insurance at a lower cost to workers and families at the three companies, and possibly other businesses, too. That effort, called Haven, shut down in 2021.
Edgewater Towne Center
Amazon One Medical offers primary care for adults ages 14+. The office is designed with members’ real life experiences in mind — same-day appointments, prompt start times, video chat, and compassionate providers who listen.
“If you fast forward 10 years from now, people are not going to believe how primary care was administered. For decades, you called your doctor, made an appointment three or four weeks out, drove 15-20 minutes to the doctor, parked your car, signed in and waited several minutes in reception, eventually were placed in an exam room, where you waited another 10-15 minutes before the doctor came in, saw you for five to ten minutes and prescribed medicine, and then you drove 20 minutes to the pharmacy to pick it up—and that’s if you didn’t have to then go see a specialist for additional evaluation, where the process repeated and could take even longer for an appointment,” said Amazon CEO Andy Jassy.
“Customers want and deserve better, and that’s what One Medical has been working and innovating on for more than a decade. Together, we believe we can make the health care experience easier, faster, more personal, and more convenient for everyone,” Jassy added.

About Amazon One Medical
Amazon acquired One Medical for $3.9 billion in a February, 2023 deal. One Medical has a network of over 200 brick-and-mortar clinics across 27 markets, with 836,000 members and relationships with thousands of employers.
The moves by Amazon complement the retail giant’s earlier healthcare endeavors: Amazon Pharmacy, all online, and Amazon Clinic, a telehealth service.
The 2023 deal follows Amazon’s 2018 purchase of the online pharmacy service PillPack, which later became Amazon Pharmacy. Amazon also partnered with JPMorgan Chase and Berkshire Hathaway to launch Haven, an effort to provide better and lower priced health care services and insurance. It shuttered in 2021.
