The brand new Red Bull New York training facility will serve as the men’s Brazilian National Team’s training grounds in Morris Township, New Jersey, during this summer’s World Cup.

“We analyzed several aspects. The main objective was to find the best quality playing fields, hotels, logistical facilities, the smallest possible time difference, and other factors that could positively influence the team’s performance,” said Cícero Souza, general manager of men’s national teams at the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation).

“We found the best conditions in all these areas in the New York/New Jersey region, and this can make all the difference in a competition that is extremely complicated, given the magnitude of the event,” he added.

Situated on an 80-acre site off Columbia Road, the complex, opening in March, features eight soccer pitches and a 500-seat match field, serving as the team’s primary, state-of-the-art training hub. During the World Cup run, the facility will be known as Columbia Park Training Center.

“I believe we made the best choice based on our assessments,” Rodrigo Caetano, general coordinator for the Brazil national team, said in a statement.

“Since securing our qualification, we have taken every precaution to find a place that could offer the necessary training structure, with privacy, modernity, and comfort. After the draw that defined the groups and the locations of the games, we intensified our search and found the perfect setting at the RB New York training center to host the national team,” Caetano added.

Members of the CBF said in a statement that they visited several locations in recent months, staying at hotels and training centers in cities including Orlando, Seattle, Portland, Dallas, Nashville, Boston, Kansas City, San Diego, and Los Angeles.

FIFA said it received the most requests for Red Bull’s new training campus among the offered sites.

Located in Morris County, near Interstate 287 and State Route 24, the facility near Columbia Turnpike was built on land sold by the Honeywell Corp. During the World Cup run, the facility will be known as Columbia Park Training Center.

The team will stay at The Ridge Hotel in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, based on privacy, comfort, security, and proximity to other activity locations, the CBF said in a statement.

Brazil takes on Morocco at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands, East Rutherford, New Jersey, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, which is the first local game of the World Cup. Brazil will then proceed to the group-stage matches in Philadelphia and Miami.

MLS will pause its season from May 25 to July 15 to avoid the World Cup.

New Training Facility for Multiple Purposes

The Red Bulls partnered with Gensler Architects in Morristown, New Jersey, to design the new training facility, replacing the team’s former location in Hanover. The goal was to create a campus that could bring professional, academy, and youth programs together under one roof.

Unlike any other facility in the U.S., the campus also includes a youth soccer training academy, an on-site dormitory, and upgraded amenities to support recruiting, coaching, and referee clinics. The campus seamlessly transitions from indoor to outdoor spaces, providing athletes with a place to practice, play, rest, recover, and learn. To promote a culture of well-being, the facility offers communal dining rooms and nutrition programs that educate athletes about the benefits of healthy eating, according to Gensler’s website.

The complex features eight full-size outdoor soccer pitches with complementary training areas, including one turf field. LED light poles stand throughout the complex. The 85,000-square-foot, two-story main building will serve as offices, per a press statement. Additional buildings at the 80-acre property will house training facilities for Red Bull’s local professional and youth teams.

Of the eight fields, two are dedicated to the Red Bull first team, which plays in the MLS Next Pro league at Montclair State University, according to a press release. Two are dedicated to the second team. And four are set aside for the club’s Academy teams, under-10 through under-17.
