Extreme Dwarfanators Wrestling (EDW) Lucha is a high-energy, family-friendly sensation featuring Los Mini Enmascarados (Mini Masked Wrestlers) performing Lucha Libre. The show stars the top micro wrestlers from around the world and includes show-stopping aerials, scissor kicks, and “death-defying” acrobatics, the Meadowlands Ractrack said online.
The art of Lucha Libre, or freestyle wrestling, dates to the 1800s in Mexico, but didn’t catch on until the 1930s and 1940s. From there, the wrestling style went viral (without WiFi or internet) across Mexico and the United States.
The masks worn by EDW pay homage to tradition and to the essential part of Mexican wrestling, according to reports. Different shapes, lots of colors, sparkles that tell stories without words. There’s bling, a few wigs, a chicken. It’s art that is hard to find in a random big city museum.
EDW combines American-style micro-wrestling with Mexican Lucha Libre, featuring highly athletic “mini masked wrestlers” (los mini enmascarados), according to its website.
The action-packed production moves fast, blending high-flying aerial acrobatics and comedy with extreme technical wrestling, while “championing respect and opportunities for little people.”
Formerly known as “midget wrestling,” the company rebranded to Extreme Dwarfanators Wrestling to move away from outdated terminology and highlight the athletes as elite professionals and entertainers.
