New Jersey Transit discussed the fate of the Kingsland Train Station in Lyndhurst at two public information sessions held last week at Lyndhurst Township Hall, where commuters expressed concerns over the plans.
NJ Transit recently announced plans to shutter the the 115-year-old station once a new station is completed in approximately May 2025.
According to NJ Transit, the Kingsland station has numerous issues, including steep steps, no elevator, non-ADA compliant, insufficient parking, low-level boarding, asphalt platforms, deteriorating infrastructure, recurrent drainage issues, and limited amenities.
The new station is currently being built a 10-minute walk from the Kingsland Station and features,
- Fully ADA-Accessible
- High-level platforms
- Four (4) new elevators, stairs, and canopies
- New lighting, communication systems, and CCTV
- Improved customer information and communications
- Accessible for all users
- Improved parking accessibility
- Faster, easier, and safer boarding and alighting
Commuters at the public information session expressing issues against the closure referred to the new location’s lack of proximity to bus service that many people use to get to the train.
