Both teams from the Meadowlands saw another week of football action this past Sunday, with the Jets hosting the Los Angeles Rams at MetLife Stadium and the Giants taking on the Falcons in Atlanta. As the season reaches its close, neither team is fighting for a spot in the playoffs, though the fans still want to cheer on for their favorite teams.
Jets Fall 19-9 to Rams at MetLife Stadium
Looking to ride the momentum from their win over the Jaguars in the previous week, the Jets were hoping to collect their second win in a row against the Rams, who are fighting for a spot in the playoffs. In their win last week, Davante Adams put up a historic performance, which he hoped to carry into this week.
The Jets got off to a good start forcing the Rams to punt on their first drive and immediately responding with a touchdown. It was none other than Davante Adams who found the endzone on a 11-yard receiving touchdown. The Jets defense continued to force pressure on the Rams, grabbing an interception on the next drive. The Rams eventually scored however, to tie the game at 6, but the Jets collected a field goal before the half came to an end, giving them a 9-6 lead.
The Jets were unable to carry over their solid performance from the first half into the second half unfortunately, as the offense struggled and the Rams scored a field goal to tie the game at 9. Not long after, the Jets fumbled the ball and the Rams responded with a touchdown to take a 16-9 lead.
The Rams scored another field goal to make the Jets’ deficit 10 points, though the Jets drove down the field and forced themselves into field goal position with a chance to cut down the lead. Unfortunately, Anders Carlson missed the field goal to leave the score the same, which allowed the Rams to run the clock out and secure their win over the Jets.
Giants Lose 34-7 to Falcons
The Giants entered the game as significant underdogs to the Falcons despite rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. making his first start of his career. The Giants proved the public wrong quickly, however, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a Darius Slayton touchdown and shutting the Falcons down.
In the second quarter, the Falcons opened up the scoring with a field goal and carried that momentum with them, recording a pick-six on the very next drive. The Falcons recorded another touchdown on their next drive to make the score 17-7. Both teams traded turnovers before the second quarter came to an end, leaving the Giants with a deficit of 10 points.
The Giants did not get off to an ideal start in the second half, throwing another pick-six on the first drive of the half. The Falcons defense had seemed to read the Giants well and continued to stop them on offense. On their next drive, the Falcons scored another touchdown to make it 31-7, with the Giants needing to make significant changes to get back in the game.
The Giants offense, unfortunately could not make these adjustments and continued to struggle. The Falcons added on 3 more points in the third quarter with a field goal, though there would be no more points following it, leading the game to a conclusion with the Falcons winning by a score of 34-7 over the Giants.
What to Look Out for This Week
This week, the Jets will be taking on a divisional rival in the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at 1 p.m. Having lost in a narrow defeat to the Bills earlier this year, Aaron Rodgers and the Jets will look to avenge their loss against MVP-hopeful Josh Allen and his team on the road. The Giants will be returning to MetLife Stadium, where they will be hosting the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at 1 p.m.
