Football in the Meadowlands Week 17 Preview: Jets Host Divisional Rival Patriots at MetLife Stadium This Sunday, Giants Travel to Take On Raiders

The Meadowlands is in store for another exciting week of football, with just two weeks remaining for the NFL regular season. In their final two games of the season, the Giants and Jets will both be looking to enter 2026 on a high note, bringing some momentum into next season.

New England Patriots vs. New York Jets

The New York Jets will be returning to the Meadowlands on Sunday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m., as the team takes on one of their biggest rivals, the New England Patriots. With the Jets eliminated from the playoffs, the team is hoping to play spoiler to the Patriots, who are fighting for the number one seed in the AFC.

The Jets will be rolling into their next matchup with rookie Brady Cook starting at the quarterback position once again. In last week’s game against the Saints, Cook threw for 188 yards, continuing his improvement. Cook incorporated every receiver into the game, though it was running back Isaiah Davis who led the team with 52 receiving yards on four receptions.

Wide receiver Adonai Mitchell continued his string of solid performances, recording 43 receiving yards on three receptions. Mitchell has shown significant improvement since being traded to the Jets in early November. Mitchell has already surpassed his rookie stats from last year in nearly every category and has even recorded 100 more receiving yards with the Jets this year than his previous team, the Colts, despite playing two extra games for the Colts.

New York Giants vs. Las Vegas Raiders

This game will have massive implications for the future of both teams, as the loser will hold control of the first overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft, with just one week remaining in the season. The Giants, who already possess a strong core of young talent, will see benefits regardless of where they fall in the draft order.

Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart will look to bounce back after a rough start in his still very young career. Dart put up just 33 passing yards against the Minnesota Vikings, but will be facing much easier competition in this week’s game.

The Raiders have struggled mightily this season, with one of the worst offenses in the league, scoring the least amount of points this season of any team in the league. The Giants will look to take advantage of these struggles, in one of the team’s most winnable games of the season. The Raiders are slightly favored to win the game, though the odds are almost even, meaning any team can come out with a win.

With only two weeks left in the NFL regular season, the Jets and Giants will both be wrapping their seasons up. Though the results weren’t what many had hoped for, both teams will head into the 2026 season with renewed optimism and some fresh faces.
