Football in the Meadowlands Week 18 Preview: Jets, Giants Face Off Against Divisional Rivals for Final Game of 2025 NFL Season

The final week of the NFL season is officially here, with both the Giants and Jets scheduled to play their last game in months. Both teams will go out facing divisional rivals, as the Giants host the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium, while the Jets travel to take on the Buffalo Bills.

New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills

On Sunday, Jan. 4, at 4:25 p.m., the Jets will be taking on the Bills, looking to end the season on a high note. The game will have severe draft implications for the Jets, who are currently in possession of the third overall pick for the 2026 NFL Draft. The Bills, on the other hand, have already clinched a spot into the playoffs, but will continue to put up a fight in this game.

Josh Allen is expected to start for the Bills, though it is uncertain how much playing time he will get, as the team looks to preserve his health heading into the playoffs. For the Jets, there is nothing to lose, as the team has been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Now, the team’s main goal is to take down a rival and steal some momentum to kick off the new year.

With star receiver Garrett Wilson set to return next season, as well as the addition of breakout receiver Adonai Mitchell, the Jets will have much to look forward to next season. The team also possesses two of the top 20 picks in the upcoming draft, setting them up to have plenty of young talent on their roster for 2026.

Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants

The Giants will be hosting MetLife Stadium’s final game of the 2025 NFL season, as the Cowboys visit the Meadowlands on Sunday, Jan. 4 at 1 p.m. Quarterback Jaxson Dart will look to finish his rookie campaign strong and lead the Giants to its first win over the Cowboys since 2021.

The team’s last face-off ended in a high-scoring offensive battle that resulted in a 40-37 Cowboys win in overtime. This week, Dart will hope to finally lead the team past the Cowboys, after a close call a few months ago. While both teams are eliminated from playoff contention, the game serves as an opportunity for Dart and many other young stars on the Giants to continue developing. The Giants also have massive draft implications on the line, as they currently hold the second overall pick, with the potential to grab the first overall pick depending on the results of several games.

Dart recorded 207 passing yards and two rushing touchdowns in the Giants’ win over the Raiders last week and he will hope to continue that momentum. Two of the team’s youngest offensive talents, Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers, are set to return next season and will form a dangerous trio that can send shockwaves throughout the league.

As the season comes to a close, both teams will look to end their season on a positive note  and head into the next season coming off a victory. Regardless of the results, the teams will hold a great position in the upcoming draft and will only continue to see improvements in the offseason. The 2025 NFL season may be wrapping up, but there is still much to look forward to in the near future, including the NFL Draft.
