Football in the Meadowlands Week 3: Jets, Giants Both Pick Up Impressive Victories in Dominant Performances

Last week, the energy between the two teams in the Meadowlands could not have differed more, as the Jets picked up their first win of the season, while the Giants dropped to 0-2. This week, however, both teams shared the positive energy as they both picked up dominant wins in the Week 3 slate. The Jets did so under the bright lights of Thursday Night Football against a division rival, the New England Patriots. The Giants, on the other hand, took down the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon, as significant underdogs.

Jets Dominate Patriots on Primetime Football in 24-3 Victory

Coming off a close win against the Titans, the Jets were looking to stay in the victory column against the New England Patriots, which seemed likely, as the Jets were heavily favored going into the game. It became evident why early on, as the Jets scored two touchdowns in the first half, thanks to Allen Lazard and Breece Hall. The Patriots were able to get on the board before the half ended with a field goal, but the Jets still held a 14-3 lead.

Entering the second half, the Jets were dominating the Patriots, despite only holding an 11-point lead. Their defense held the Patriots down, making it virtually impossible for them to gain any momentum with constant pressure. On the other side of the ball, the Jets offense looked as competent as it’s ever been in recent years with Aaron Rodgers leading the charge.

The New York Jets continued to prove that this offense is different from the years of old, as they scored another touchdown on their first drive of the second half. As their defense continued to shut the Patriots down, the Jets added on a few more points off a field goal to make it a 24-3 game, which would be the final score as the Patriots could not get any offense going.

Giants Pick Up First Win of 2024 Season in 21-15 Upset Victory Over Browns

Entering the game, the Giants were long shots to win this game, as their two prior performances did not offer much hope and the Browns seemed to be the more put-together team. However, the Giants did not let this affect them going into the game. With the Giants fumbling and the Browns quickly capitalizing to take a 7-0 just 10 seconds into the game, it seemed that the game may have played out the way many imagined. However, the Giants fought back and with an impressive defensive showing and a touchdown from Devin Singletary, were able to tie the game.

More impressive defense from the Giants and two touchdowns from rookie sensation Malik Nabers put the Giants on top by a score of 21-7 entering halftime. Nabers’ impressive start to the season has been record-setting, as he became the youngest wide receiver with a multi-TD game. The receiver’s hot start has left many Giants fans excited for the future, as he is already beginning to establish himself as one of the league’s best at his position.

As the 2nd half began, the Giants defense continued to hold it down, with the Browns only scoring 1 touchdown but the Giants scoring none. Despite the lackluster second half offensively, the Giants still walked away with their first win of the 2024-25 NFL season, bringing them to a 1-2 record.

What to Look For Next Week

Next week, the Jets will take on the Denver Broncos, in another matchup that they are heavily favored in. The game will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m., with the Jets returning to MetLife Stadium for their second consecutive game. The Jets will look to improve to 3-1, as Aaron Rodgers hopes to keep the momentum going in what many are labeling an easy win for the Jets.

The Giants will be taking on the divisional rival Cowboys this Thursday, as MetLife Stadium hosts Thursday Night Football for the second week in a row. With both teams holding a 1-2 record, the Giants can earn another upset win, this time in primetime, to get their record to .500 on the season.
