Coming off of losses in Week 7, both the Jets and Giants were looking to avenge themselves in the following week, however the results did not end as either team had hoped with both teams falling to 2-7 on the season.
Jets Lose in Heartbreaker to Patriots By a Score of 25-22
The Jets went into their matchup against the Patriots looking to sweep them for the first time since 2000. With the Jets heavily favored entering the matchup, it seemed likely, but the game disagreed with the Patriots getting out to a quick 7-0 lead. The Jets were able to record a touchdown, but a missed extra point led to the Patriots maintaining their lead. However, another Jets touchdown gave them a lead to end the half.
The Patriots quickly responded with a touchdown of their own to take the lead, but the Jets made a field goal to take a 16-14 lead. The Patriots responded once again to make it 17-16. With less than two minutes left, the Jets score a touchdown to make it 22-17 and put themselves in a great position to win, but they couldn’t stop the Patriots offensively as they pushed down the field to make it 25-22.
Giants Fall to Steelers 26-18 in Primetime Matchup
The beginning of the first half displayed a battle between two great defenses, as the score was 9-6 with all points coming from field goals, with the game tied at 9. The Giants were able to string together good drives in the first half, but the Steelers defense was too overpowering for the offense to handle.
The Steelers wasted no time getting started in the second half, scoring two touchdowns to take a 23-9 lead at the start of the 4th quarter. The Giants responded with a touchdown of their own and the two teams traded field goals not long after. However, this was not enough for the Giants to win the game, as the Steelers won 26-18.
What to Look for Next Week
The Jets already got their victory over the Texans on a Thursday Night Football-Halloween matchup to improve to 3-6 and put the team back in a positive mindset. While the team’s record may not show it, they are still very much in a position to secure a playoff spot by the end of the season.
The Giants will be hosting the Commanders at MetLife Stadium this Sunday at 1 p.m. The Commanders, who are one of the most threatening teams in the NFC will pose a threat for the Giants. However, the Giants will look to overcome the odds and walk away with a victory.
