With both teams on losing streaks, the Jets and Giants looked to finally get back into the win column this past week. The Jets were able to do so, securing a morale-boosting win over the Texans on Halloween, however, the Giants were not able to do the same.
Jets Defeat Texans 21-13 on Thursday Night Football
On Halloween night, the Jets took on the Houston Texans for Thursday Night Football, looking to get back on track after a string of losses. Despite their recent struggles, the Jets still entered the matchup as favorites thanks to their strong team. The Jets defense showed why they were favored, shutting down the Texans for the first quarter, until they eventually got on the board thanks to a touchdown from Joe Mixon.
The Jets offense was unable to find any momentum the entire half, leading to be in a 7-0 deficit entering halftime, but it would not stay that way for long. On their first drive of the second half, the Jets marched down the field and tied the game up on a Garrett Wilson touchdown. The Texans immediately responded with a field goal to take the lead, but the Jets took it a step further, scoring a touchdown on the next drive, thanks to a catch from Garrett Wilson that will go down in the history books.
The Jets tacked on 7 more points later in the half thanks to a touchdown from their other star wide receiver, Davante Adams, to make it 21-10. The Texans added on a field goal to make it 21-13 before the game came to an end, but the Jets were able to push through and earn their 3rd victory of the season.
Giants Fall to Commanders 27-22 for Second Time This Season
Having already fallen to the Commanders once, the Giants looked to avenge their previous loss this time. Unfortunately, the Commanders got off to a hot start, taking a 7-0 lead. The Giants quickly responded, however, scoring on Daniel Jones’ first passing touchdown in MetLife Stadium since 2022.
The second quarter told a different story, though, as the Commanders scored 14 unanswered points to take a 21-7 lead at halftime. The Giants needed to fight out of a serious deficit, already being underdogs in the game, but even less favored now.
The Giants and Commanders exchanged field goals in the third quarter to make it 24-10, but the deficit remained the same for the Giants. The Giants went on to score two touchdowns in their next two drives, but the Commanders score a field goal, which, along with a missed two-point conversion attempt, failed to be the difference maker as the Giants lost 27-22.
What to Look for Next Week
Both the Jets and Giants will be away next week, with the Jets traveling to Arizona to take on the Cardinals, while the Giants are going to another country to face the Panthers in Germany. Both of these matchups offer great opportunities for the teams from the Meadowlands to pick up a victory, with the Jets looking to keep their momentum going and the Giants hoping to get a win over one of the weakest teams in the NFL currently.
