Genova Burns: Hackensack Meridian Joins Barristers Charity Softball Tournament

Genova Burns and Hackensack Meridian Health are participating in the 30+ year Battle of the Barristers Charity Softball Tournament on Aug. 7 (rain date Aug.14) to support the Fresh Air Fund.

Raising an average of $70,000 annually, this event is about everyone working together in a non-legal setting just as much as it is about the numbers raised for those in need.

At Brookdale Park in Bloomfield, New Jersey, the stage will be set for an epic showdown for bragging rights. From the opening pitch to the final championship clash, every game is a testament to the sheer willpower power of teamwork and community spirit.

Hackensack Meridian Health’s team will be led by Florey Cruz-Cerpa, Regional Director, North, of Community Outreach & Engagement. The team will include members from both EMS and Mountainside Medical Center.

Dennis Lunde, an EMS professional, will be present with an ambulance, offering the engaging EMS Touch-A-Truck program. This initiative allows children to tour the ambulance and learn about its inner workings, providing an educational and hands-on experience.

Catalina Dubon-Guiterrez, Community Outreach Manager at Mountainside Medical Center, along with her colleague Freddy, will also be on-site. They will offer health education and giveaways to educate children about sugar levels in beverages and emergency response by using a teddy bear.

These activities are part of Hackensack Meridian Health’s “Community Helpers” initiative, which aims to educate and empower children to dial 9-1-1 in emergencies.

To ensure the well-being of attendees, Hackensack Meridian Health will provide a tent for a cooling/first aid station, equipped with two fans and a seating area.

Nathan Baldinger from Twin Rocks Natural Spring Water has generously agreed to donate 10 cases of 24-pack small water bottles. These will be shipped in time for the game. Attendees are encouraged to bring coolers and ice for these water bottles.

Dennis Lunde will be available throughout the game with the ambulance, ensuring constant EMS presence. The schedule for the cooling/first aid station is still being finalized, and further details will be provided once available.

As the largest annual fundraiser for the Fresh Air Fund, the Battle of the Barristers stands as a testament to what can be achieved when passion meets purpose. Join us for this exhilarating and joyous occasion, as we come together to make a meaningful difference and celebrate the spirit of giving.
