On Saturday, Aug. 16, the New York Jets faced off against the Giants, in their annual preseason matchup. Both teams entered the game, holding a record of 1-0, but it was the Giants that kept their undefeated record, playing well on both sides of the ball to record the win. The preseason match served as an opportunity for the squads to prepare as the NFL regular season creeps up.
The Giants’ offense was spectacular in its Saturday contest, with all four quarterbacks posting impressive numbers. Most notably was Jaxson Dart, the team’s 25th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Dart posted 137 passing yards, completing 14 of his 16 passes. He also threw for a touchdown and ran one in.
After just two preseason games, Dart is putting himself in a position to contend for the starting job and mark a new era of Giants football. The Giants have struggled to find a long-term replacement at the position since Eli Manning’s retirement, though they may have found their new face of the franchise. Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson also threw for over 100 yards, showing the depth displayed by the Giants’ quarterback room.
For the Jets, the offense wasn’t clicking as well as it had in their game last week, as Justin Fields’ two drives only resulted in one complete pass. Brady Cook, who the Jets acquired as an undrafted free agent in the 2025 NFL Draft, threw the team’s only touchdown on a 4-yard pass to wide receiver Quentin Skinner.
The Giants walked away with a 31-12 victory over the Jets, though, both teams were able to improve and prepare as a result. In just a few weeks, the NFL season will officially be underway, with both teams looking to improve from their finishes in the previous season. These impressive performances from the preseason will hopefully develop into more success in the regular season.
Later this week, both teams play their final game of the preseason, with the Giants taking on the Patriots on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium and the Jets hosting the Eagles the following day. After those games, the next time either team will take the field will be in the regular season, where they will hope to create a winning NFL regular season.
