In a collaboration with Choose New Jersey, NJ Governor Phil Murphy, along with several industry and government leaders, successfully closed out their two-city, five-day economic trip to the United Kingdom. New Jersey is the top U.S. state for UK foreign direct investment and this was only boosted by the Governor’s trip to the country.
“This mission has strengthened our shared commitment with the United Kingdom to foster economic growth through innovation and partnership,” said Governor Murphy. “By advancing collaborations, we are positioning New Jersey as a prime destination, creating pathways for job growth and shared prosperity.”
Every day of the trip consisted of meetings with important industry and government leaders of different departments throughout London and Cambridge. Some of the businesses that Governor Murphy and the government and business leaders participated in roundtable discussions with included the Association of British Healthtech Industries (ABHI), BritishAmerican Business (BAB) among other groups.
The highlights of the economic mission included the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). The first MOU between Climate Group and the State of New Jersey outlines both parties’ shared goal to create a better environment across the globe. The second MOu was between the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) and the UK’s Investment Association (IA) confirming a partnership designed to boost FinTech collaboration between New Jersey and London.
“This economic mission to the UK has underscored New Jersey’s commitment to being at the forefront of global innovation and sustainable growth,” said Tim Sullivan, CEO of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. “With agreements that open new doors for FinTech collaboration and environmental progress, we are building on our strengths as a state that not only attracts international business but also drives impactful partnerships.”
In addition to the discussions, Governor Murphy was a participant in a keynote interview hosted by the Financial Times in London, which went over artificial intelligence. When he spoke, Governor Murphy addressed the Garden State’s goal of becoming a leader in AI through the commitments made to achieve their goal.
The delegation also visited the West Cambridge Innovation District and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus to discuss potential collaborations between New Jersey and some of the UK’s leading business institutions. New Jersey and the United Kingdom have had a strong relationship and are looking to continue that trend. The goal of their partnership is to benefit both sides, displaying New Jersey’s excellence in innovation, technology and many other areas.
