On Saturday, Feb. 7, the New Jersey Hall of Fame at American Dream will be hosting the official Whitney E. Houston Capstone event, celebrating 40 years of the iconic singer’s career. The event is free to attend, though tickets must be reserved in advance. There will be a $1 processing fee per transaction.

Pat Houston, the executor of The Estate of Whitney E. Houston will be giving the opening remarks at the event. Guests will be able to relive the music and memorable moments of Houston’s renowned career through an exhibit. There will also be themed giveaways taking place across the duration of the event, as well as Whitney Houston merchandise available for purchase at the Boardwalk Shop.

Houston was born in Newark, New Jersey, which is where she first discovered her passion for music. At the age of just five years old, Houston joined the church choir at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark. During her time there, she not only sang, but learned how to play the piano, as well.

Guests will be able to perform alongside Whitney Houston on the Karaoke Stage, which features exclusive performance footage of I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) from the Whitney Houston: The Concert For A New South Africa, Durban. Those in attendance are also invited to an exclusive screening of the documentary, Whitney Houston in Focus at the Jersey Pride Theater.

The event is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and runs until 5 p.m. Houston was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2013, as one of the most iconic voices to come from the Garden State. The upcoming event will honor the career and legacy of Whitney Houston, allowing guests to celebrate all of the amazing music that she brought to the world.
