Hackensack Meridian Health network CEO Robert C. Garrett, FACHE, was named as one of the Most Influential People in Healthcare in 2022 by Modern Healthcare’s rankings.
Garrett, ranked 60th on the list, now joins the ranks of others who were also viewed by their peers as well as by the senior editors of Modern Healthcare as being among the most influential in the medical industry when it comes to leadership and impact.

Garrett was named CEO of the Hackensack University Medical Center network in 2009 after beginning his career there in 1981. Under Garrett’s leadership, dozens of initiatives were launched to advance medical education and research and driving innovation, diversity, equity and inclusion. Garrett opened the state’s first private medical school in 60 years and helped transform behavioral healthcare through a merger with Carrier Clinic, a regional leader in mental health services and addiction treatment.
The CEO also recently participated in a United Nations panel, which developed uniform global standards to help healthcare providers identify and aid victims of human trafficking protocols. That framework was sent to the World Health Organization for adoption.
