NJ Transit is holding a “Meet Our Rail Fleet: Past and Present” event on Sunday, Sept. 15 at Hoboken Terminal Track 17 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is free.
Visitors will have a chance to explore iconic locomotives and celebrate New Jersey’s rich railroad history. There will also be a guest appearance by Lackawanna MU #2454. The Whippany Railway Museum (WRyM) acquired the former Delaware Lackawanna & Western (DL&W) MU Subscription Club Car No. 2454 (ex-Erie Lackawanna / NJ Transit No. 3454). The acquisition was arranged with the cooperation and donation of the car to WRyM by the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey (URHS).
These cars catered to the so-called “gentlemen’s club set,” according to the museum’s website, and riders were sponsored by members and approved by vote.
