Press Ganey, a quality measurement and improvement service used by half of all hospitals in the U.S., has awarded three top 2021 honors to Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS).
For the ninth consecutive year, HSS received the Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence® Award for scoring in the top five percent of hospitals in the “Patient Experience” category. The award is based on performance data collected by Press Ganey from April 2020 to March 2021.
The Guardian of Excellence Award is given to organizations that have achieved the 95th percentile or higher for any of a set of designated survey measures, such as “Likelihood to Recommend,” “Overall Rating” and/or “Teamwork.”
This award “reflects an unwavering commitment to earn the trust and loyalty of patients throughout unimaginable challenges and the ability to adapt to imperatives of COVID-19 on top of the increasing demand for consumerism in healthcare,” according to Press Ganey.
“Extraordinary patient experience is essential to providing the best musculoskeletal care in the world and we must consistently maintain the highest standards of care to achieve this mission,” said Louis A. Shapiro, HSS president and CEO. “Especially during current times, this recognition is a true testament of our ongoing commitment to our patients and their safety and our responsibility as a leader in health care.”
Additionally, HSS was awarded two Pinnacle of Excellence Awards for maintaining consistently high levels of excellence over three consecutive years in both HCAHPS and Inpatient based on performance data collected from April 2018 to March 2021. HCAHPS and Inpatient measures various elements of the inpatient experience, and the awards demonstrate that patients are extremely happy with the service delivery at the inpatient setting.
“At HSS, it is our privilege to help our patients get back to doing what they love to do,” said Bryan T. Kelly, MD, MBA, HSS surgeon-in-chief and medical director. “Our clinicians and staff maintain a patient-first mentality and uphold values in excellence, innovation, integrity and teamwork, so we challenge ourselves to continually raise the bar to ensure that we are providing our patients with an outstanding experience every time.”
“Every single patient interaction is a top priority to us, and the Press Ganey recognitions are especially meaningful because it represents the true experience of those who walk through our doors at HSS,” said Ralph Maldari, chief hospitality officer & VP, client services at HSS. “Our team strives to ensure every patient’s experience across all HSS facilities is consistent and exceptional, and these awards further validate that our continuous improvement model for patient care is successful.”
