The second week of the 2025 NFL season is almost upon us and the New York Jets and Giants are both looking to claim their first wins of the season. Both teams will be facing familiar opponents, as the Jets take on a divisional rival in the Buffalo Bills, while the Giants do the same, facing the Dallas Cowboys.
New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills
The Bills have had the Jets’ number in recent years, holding an 8-2 record against them since 2020. The Jets’ last win came in 2023, on a miraculous overtime win in Aaron Rodgers’ lackluster Jets debut. In their last meeting, the Bills defeated the Jets by a score of 40-14, with Josh Allen and the entire roster clicking.
The Jets are coming off a 34-32 loss to the Steelers, though, their offense showed sparks of potential throughout the game, putting together many solid drives. Justin Fields impressed in his debut and will look to build off that in his second game with the Jets. On the other side of the field, the Bills recorded a wild walk-off win last Sunday against the Ravens in a 41-40 victory. The Bills outscored the Ravens by 16 points in the 4th quarter to cap off their comeback.
The odds strongly support the Bills as the favorites to win the game, though the Jets have had their fair share of upsets in the past. While it is a challenge to take on the reigning NFL MVP, the Jets’ offense showed many signs of hope, especially through the run game, which could be a key factor this week.
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys
Last week, the Giants fell to the Washington Commanders, with their offense falling silent. This week, the team will look to bounce back against a Dallas Cowboys team that is also 0-1. The Giants have notoriously struggled against the Cowboys in recent years, currently riding an 8-game losing streak.
After some discussion revolving around the quarterback position, the Giants have announced that they are sticking with Russell Wilson heading into Week 2. Rookie Jaxson Dart impressed in the preseason, putting pressure on Wilson to have a good outing this week to secure his starting role. The uncertainty will hopefully light a fire under Wilson and the Giants’ offense.
While the Cowboys lost to the Eagles last week, they put up a fight against the reigning Super Bowl champions. The Cowboys’ performance last week and success over the Giants among other factors has led them to become strong favorites heading into the game. The Giants will need to rely on better performances from their offense to finally take the Cowboys down.
