Liberty Science Center’s MakerLab Programs Bring Scientific Innovation to All Age Groups

Liberty Science Center will be holding meetings for its MakerLab Program on Feb. 20 and Mar. 20.  The programs are beneficial for both students and teachers, helping participants of all experience levels learn new skills. Participants will gain hands-on experience through courses designed to combine fun and education.

For teachers and STEM educators, there will be strategies taught on how to integrate 3D printing into teaching lessons. Regardless of your experience level with 3D printing, the course will give participants a guideline on how to get students engaged while using 3D printing technology.

For high school students, the program will teach them about vector drawing and how to create complex designs. At the end of the 45-minute program, students can see their work being laser cut. Students will also learn about software engineering, modifying JavaScript code to enhance robot movement and obstacle detection. Additional programs include mastering the laws of thermodynamics through a fun task, as well as two different coding programs, among others.

Middle school students will engage with the online digital creation of 3D models. They will also combine coding and 3D printing technology to construct a realistic blinking eye. Some of the other programs offered include designing customer characters and animations for video games and using science through pixel art.

Most of the programs range from roughly 45-60 minutes and provide participants with the perfect opportunity to strengthen their scientific knowledge. The variety of courses offered make it a fun time for all participants, using fun activities and stories to make the learning process more fun.

The programs cost $150 per person and include a continental breakfast. For STEM educators eager to sign up, visit tickets.lsc.org.

Programs for students must also be booked in advance. For more information, call 201-253-1337, email partnerships@lsc.org or fill out the info form found on the Liberty Science Center website.
