Pick pumpkins while enjoying local brews against a backdrop of live music and history from 1-6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Bergen County Historical Society’s annual Baron’s Oktoberfest at Historic New Bridge Landing.
At this family-friendly event, people can take photos with Revolutionary War hero Baron von Steuben, who was Major General and the Inspector General of the Continental Army. Everyone is then invited to tour three 18th century Jersey-Dutch Sandstone houses, including the state historic 1752 Steuben House.
People can enjoy music by Particle Theory, and purchase craft beers from three Bergen County breweries — Gearblock Brewing, Brix City Brewery, and Hackensack Brewery. Food vendors will be onsite, and there will be cornhole games, free pumpkin picking and decorating.
Also on the grounds, can check out the Westervelt-Thomas barn, the 1889 swing bridge, and the Campbell-Christie House. Members from the Revolutionary War reenactment group Mott’s Artillery will demonstrate cannon firing and military life.
The BCHS interpreters will be on hand preparing authentic Jersey-Dutch soft Bavarian pretzels. Donuts, hot cider, and other fall refreshments will also be available for purchase outside the tavern grounds and the gift shop will be open for shopping.
To make a reservation, see the BCHS website here. The rain date is Sunday, Sept 29. The event takes place at Historic New Bridge Landing, 1201 Main St., River Edge, New Jersey. For more information: email, contactbchs@bergencountyhistory.org, or call 201-343-9492 and leave a message.
