Meadowlands Racetrack Celebrates One of America’s Favorite Desserts, Hosts First-Ever Pie Palooza This Weekend

The Meadowlands Racetrack has played host to some of the region’s most iconic food festivals of the year. Their annual rotation includes many fan favorite foods and beverages, typically correlating with the time of the year that they are most associated. The BBQ Extravaganza and Beerfest, for example, are hosted in the summer. This weekend, the Meadowlands Racetrack is celebrating the fall with one of the season’s most iconic desserts.

On Saturday, Nov. 7, at 5 p.m., the Meadowlands Racetrack will be hosting its first-ever Pie Palooza, celebrating one of America’s most beloved dishes. Bakers and eaters alike are encouraged to bring their best recipes and entire appetite. Admission to the event is free for all guests.

The celebration will include a pie-baking competition that consists of four categories, as well as a pie-eating contest. Amateur and professional bakers are encouraged to bring their best pies to the table for the chance to win cash prizes. The four categories of the competition can be found listed below.

  • Best Savory Pie
  • Best Apple Pie
  • Best Fruit/Berry Pie
  • Best Cream/Custard-Based Pie

The entries will be judged by local food influencers and professional food critics on flavor, appearance, creativity and overall presentation. The cash prizes for each category includes $500 for first place, $250 for second place and $100 for third place.

At the pie-eating contest, participants will compete to see who can finish the most pie in a race for a cash prize and bragging rights. There will also be harness racing taking place throughout the night, beginning at 6:20 p.m., which guests can enjoy while indulging in all of the delicious pies that the event has to offer.
