Meadowlands Racetrack: Cushing, Tritton Win Ladies’ Races For International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day (IWD) was celebrated with an all-female pairing on the simulcast desk, as well as a pair of dashes that featured all female drivers.

A total of 19 female drivers, including three from Canada and two from Denmark competed in the second and fourth races on the card.

Charlene Cushing of Maine was the first IWD race winner, guiding Southwind Dredge to victory in 1:54 as the 7-2 second choice in a claiming pace.

Lauren Tritton from Australia won the other dash with Harry Knows IR, a horse from her stable trained by her husband Shane, scored in 1:54 1/5 as the 1-9 public choice in a conditioned trot. Tritton was a guest Jessica Otten’s “In the Sulky” pregame show.

Ashley Mailloux, an expert analyst for standardbred and thoroughbred racing was on set with Otten all night with race-by-race analysis and Pick-4 tickets. Mailloux also give out a Pick-6 ticket after the seventh race replay from the back paddock.

Live racing at The Meadowlands takes place every Friday and Saturday for the next 23 consecutive weeks at 6:20 p.m., with the exception of Hambletonian Day, on Saturday, Aug. 5, which begins at noon.
