Michael Allen Tapped to Replace Glenning as HMH Chief Financial Officer

Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) has appointed Michael Allen, MHA, CPA, FHFMA, to replace Bob Glenning as chief financial officer. Glenning is retiring Dec. 9 after working at New Jersey’s largest medical network for 18 years.

In addition to CFO, Glenning served as President of Financial and Digital Technology Services Divisions. Allen will also have a dual role in addition to CFO, as President of the Financial Services Division, HMH said in a statement.

In his new role, Allen will lead financial services, revenue operations, purchasing, materials management, and investment management teams. He’ll focus on developing HMH’s short- and long-term financial plans and provide strategic financial guidance to both the CEO and the board of trustees.

Robert C. Garrett, FACHE, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health, welcomed Allen, stating, “His extensive experience and proven track record of success make him the ideal leader for our financial services team and to shape our network’s future strategy and growth agenda.”

“Bob’s financial acumen and visionary leadership were instrumental in shaping HMH, including the establishment of the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. We wish him well in his retirement,” Garrett added.

Allen joins HMH with over 35 years in business and healthcare, including 28 years as a CFO. He’s stepping down on Nov. 8 as CFO at OSF Healthcare System in Peoria, Illinois, where he leads a team of 1,600 finance professionals. He also achieved strong returns for OSF Ventures, the health system’s $250 million venture fund.

He holds a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor’s from Illinois State University. He’s also a long-time member and recent Chair of the Healthcare Financial Management Association Board.
