New Buses for NJ Transit Fleet Arrive, Providing Upgraded Reliability and Better Customer Experience

NJ Transit is continuing to modernize its bus fleet, as the latest set of buses have begun to arrive. Recently, NJ Transit unveiled the first of 175 40-foot New Flyer buses that will be arriving from now until June 2026. The upgrades work on NJ Transit President & CEO Kris Kolluri’s promise to upgrade all outdated buses and rail cars by 2031.

“Investing in new, reliable and accessible public transportation is essential for keeping New Jersey moving forward,” said DOT Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chair Francis O’Connor. “Modernizing the NJ TRANSIT fleet is a critical step toward creating a world-class transit network that meets the needs of riders today and for decades to come.”

The new 40-foot buses include a variety of different amenities for customers to enhance their experience while traveling. Some of the features include USB charging ports at multiple seats, brighter LED interior lighting to create a more comfortable environment with high energy efficiency and a low-floor design with ramps that allow faster and easier access, particularly for seniors or customers with disabilities.

“Governor Murphy’s continued investment in public transportation is enabling us to deliver on our promise of a modern, reliable transit system,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kris Kolluri. “The arrival of these new buses marks another milestone toward our 2031 fleet modernization goal — and a better experience for every customer who rides with us.”

The buses also feature enhanced safety measures to ensure a more safe and secure environment when using their services. This includes onboard security cameras, blind-spot cameras to assist bus operators and turn-warning systems for pedestrians.

“This new fleet of modernized buses will make public transit more accessible and continue our work to protect the environment and prioritize sustainability,” said Congressman Rob Menendez (NJ-08). “I’m proud to see this investment in our community and remain committed to working with our partners at NJ TRANSIT to build a more reliable and efficient transit system throughout our state.”

The addition of the new buses shows NJ Transit’s dedication to committing to their efforts to continue upgrading its fleet. The upgrades also work to help the experience of its customers.
