NJ Transit recently announced that it would be holding a statewide student art competition in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Students are asked to design bus graphics by using original artwork that celebrates America’s 250th anniversary, while also highlighting the Garden State’s contributions.
The competition is accessible for New Jersey high school students, who can work either individually or in teams to create a design. Two winning designs will be chosen, one from North Jersey and another from South Jersey, with the chosen artwork being featured on NJ Transit buses throughout the entire year. The winning artwork will be transformed into full NJ Transit bus wraps, on display for all commuters in the Garden State to see.
All submissions for the competition must incorporate the mandatory NJ Transit branding, as well as “America 250” or “250th Anniversary” language. The submissions will be judged based on visual impact, historical relevance, storytelling and scalability on a 40-foot bus.
Schools participating in the competition must submit one final artwork file, a brief artist statement that explains the historical inspirations and approach behind the design and a list of participating students. Artwork must be submitted through a teacher advisor designated by the school in an email. Alternatively, submissions can be made to the official NJ Transit submission portal. All entries have to be received by Mar. 22, with no late submissions being accepted.
The competition is meant to inspire creativity within students while also educating them on the history of the country. The education, in particular, focuses on New Jersey’s contributions to the creation and growth of the United States of America.
