NJ Transit put some of its latest fare modernization efforts on display at Secaucus Junction. High-tech fare gates, reloadable FARE-PAY cards, more mobile payment options and modern ticket vending machines were among the features showcased at the station. The efforts show the company’s dedication to providing the best possible travel experience for customers.
“Our fare modernization program is focused on making every step of the customer journey more seamless, efficient, and secure,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kris Kolluri. “From advanced 3D fare gates to expanded contactless payments, we’re improving the way customers move through the system with greater ease and reliability while protecting revenue.”
The new fare gates will include advanced 3D sensors and imaging technology in an effort to bolster security and revenue protection. The new FARE-PAY cards also make it easier for customers to travel the system by allowing them to register their card and manage their accounts online.
When purchasing tickets, new vending machines will allow for tap-and-go payments with credit and debit cards. The machines also have the ability to accept mobile payment systems, such as Apple Pay and Google Wallet.
Train crews will be utilizing new mobile validation devices for scanning rail tickets. The devices will allow for the acceptance of the FARE-PAY card, which is not possible for the first generation of their mobile validation devices.
