NJ Transit Offers Military Officers Complimentary Rides for NYC Fleet Week

NJ Transit is honoring those who have fought to defend our country by offering anyone serving in the United States Armed Forces complimentary rides throughout Fleet Week. Fleet Week is often scheduled to take place around the same time as Memorial Day and it is no different this year.

From May 22-28, active-duty and reserve members of the military and the National Guard will be able to ride the NJ Transit for free as long as they are either in uniform or have a Military ID. By simply showing your ID to the conductor or operator you will be able to ride for free, no other steps involved.

During Fleet Week in NYC, ships are docked at New York Passenger Ship Terminal on the Hudson River. While the ships are docked, military officers have the week to explore the Big Apple and take a much needed vacation. NJ Transit has decided to make it easier for veterans to explore NY and NJ while on their break.

NYC Fleet Week is a week-long celebration of the men and women that protect our seas, recognizing all the sacrifices that they have made in the name of our country. While ships are docked, you have the opportunity to meet and interact with the veterans that are fighting for our country, watch aerial demonstrations from the Blue Angels, attend concerts and performances from the Navy Band and more.

“Supporting our military personnel by offering free rides during Fleet Week is a tradition at NJ TRANSIT that we are proud to uphold,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett. “It’s a gesture of our appreciation for their ongoing service and sacrifice, and an opportunity to give something back to those who give so much.”

Retired veterans will also be able to travel at a discounted rate.
