PSE&G’s Energy Efficiency Programs Projected to Save $484M and Avoid 1.6M Tons of Carbon Emissions Per Year

PSE&G’s most recent report on its Clean Energy Future Energy Efficiency (CEF-EE) program has shown that it has yielded positive results. Over 380,000 customers have taken action to conserve energy thanks to the variety of energy efficiency programs offered by PSE&G.

It is estimated that participating customers will save a combined $484 million annually on utility bills through several program initiatives, including 70,000 home energy assessments and the sales of 306,000 smart thermostats and 95,000 power strips through PSE&G Marketplace. The program has also provided more than 97,000 retail appliance rebates for energy-efficient appliances, which aids in reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

For electric customers, the initiatives will help save more than 2.1 million megawatt-hours of electricity annually. To put that number into perspective, you can power over 312,000 New Jersey homes each year with that much electricity. For natural gas customers, they are estimated to save 57 million therms of natural gas annually. All together, their work will save roughly 1.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

Karen Reif, vice president of Renewables and Energy Solutions, PSE&G, stated, “We are pleased with the steady progress of our energy efficiency programs, our initiatives are making a measurable difference, allowing customers to lower both their utility bills and energy usage, which in turn supports New Jersey’s clean energy objectives.”

PSE&G’s commercial and industrial (C&I) energy efficiency programs have also shown to be successful lately. The PSE&G Small Business Direct Install Program has led to roughly $12 million in savings on utility bills for participating businesses. The program is expected to save 52,000 megawatt-hours of electricity and 2.4 million therms of natural gas annually. Collectively, the C&I programs help save about 44,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Henry Wong, who is a PSE&G customer and the owner of Carvel Ice Cream in Pennington, New Jersey has been able to tremendously help his business and energy efficiency with the help of PSE&G’s programs. Through the Direct Install Program, Wong’s store was able to upgrade two old rooftop HVAC units with dual enthalpy economizers and smart start features, which have proven to be a huge improvement. “Using this program easily saved me $10,000 in installation and maintenance costs,” said Wong.
