This past Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain took on Inter Milan in the Champions League final. The matchup was months in the making, with impressive performances from both clubs leading them to this game.
The Champions League pits some of Europe’s best clubs against one another, with each team competing to see who will be crowned the best in the continent. The tournament follows a similar concept to the FIFA Club World Cup, with a few exceptions. The Champions League takes place over a longer period of time and does not feature as much diversity in its selection of teams.
Some of the teams featured in the Champions League will be participating in the FIFA Club World Cup, particularly the two finalists, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Inter Milan. The two clubs faced off in Munich, Germany to determine the best club in Europe.
It was an effortless win for PSG, who defeated Inter Milan by a score of 5-0, putting on a historic performance. Their five goal deficit marks the largest winning margin in a Champions League final in its history.
Paris Saint-Germain will look to capture another title in international play, with the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup kicking off in under two weeks. MetLife Stadium will be hosting nine games throughout the duration of the event, including a quarterfinals game, two semifinals games and the final match.
Borussia Dortmund, who are scheduled to play at MetLife Stadium on Jun. 17 against Fluminense for a group stage match, finished 10th in the Champions League standings, with a record of five wins and three losses.
With all of the talent that European teams have to offer, winning the Champions League is a beyond impressive feat. However, PSG will now face another tough challenge, taking on clubs from across the world, with the hopes of being the victors of yet another international tournament.
With their Champions League victory, PSG currently hold the third-best odds to win the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup behind Real Madrid and Manchester City. In just a few weeks we will find out if they can make it to the final yet again. This time, if they hope to hoist another trophy, it will be at MetLife Stadium.
