Two public hearings will be held in Lyndhurst, New Jersey next month about the future of the Kingsland rail station located on Ridge Road in Lyndhurst, New Jersey Transit said.
The public hearings will be on Aug. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lyndhurst Town Hall’s council chambers, 367 Valley Brook Ave.
Under the proposal, the Kingsland rail station, on NJ Transit’s Main Line, 250 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, would close in 2025, but not before a new Lyndhurst rail station has opened at 366 Court Ave. at Delafield Avenue and service has begun. At that time, service to the former Kingsland rail station would cease, currently anticipated for May 2025.
Built in 1918, the Kingsland station building has not been open to the public for the past 15 years. The station has insufficient parking and is not ADA-compliant.
“Reaching the platforms from the street level requires using stairs; there is no elevator option. The station’s condition creates equity concerns as well as passenger circulation and experience issues,” NJ Transit said in a press release.
The new Lyndhurst Station will be fully ADA accessible, provide high-level platforms and new elevators, stairs, and canopies, making for a safer, enhanced travel experience for all customers. The new Lyndhurst station is approximately a three-minute drive from the Kingsland station.
The public hearing location is accessible for persons with disabilities. Individuals requesting a sign language interpreter, language assistance, or other accommodation should contact the Public Hearing Office at (973) 491-8520 or TTY (800) 772-2287 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, no later than Aug. 8.
