Pull! For a Cause: Clays, Arrows and Aid for Future Hackensack Meridian Docs

Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine is taking aim at medical student debt with a Sporting Clay Shoot fundraiser event on Monday, June 2 at the scenic Hudson Farm Club in Hopatcong.

Participants will test their clay shooting skills on a layout that is considered one of the best in the country. Proceeds from the event support scholarships for aspiring doctors studying at the Nutley-based school.

Board of Governors members Robert O’Hara and Illana Raia are leading the event, which also includes fly fishing and archery for non-shooters.

The private medical school opened in 2015 and is affiliated with Hackensack Meridian Health network of 18 hospitals

“This is more than a day outdoors,” said Dr. Jeffrey Boscamp, the school’s president and dean. “It’s a way to help students focus on medicine — not medical school bills.”

Participants will shoot in groups of four, with trained range officers at each station. Off the range, pros will offer lessons in casting and target shooting.

“We’re thrilled to bring this event back,” said Sheila Wolfinger, the school’s executive director. “Scholarships make a real difference, and this outing draws attention and support for the next generation of healthcare leaders.”

All funds raised feed into the Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation’s Be The Difference campaign, a $1 billion push to transform health care access, research, education, and patient care across New Jersey.
