System of a Down — comprising Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian, and John Dolmayan — went on hiatus in 2006, with each member branching out to focus on individual side projects. Tankian pursued a solo career and Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan formed Scars on Broadway. Shavo joined together with RZA from the Wu-Tang clan to form Hip-Hop group Achozen.
They reunited in 2011 but have not released a new album in 19 years. Despite this, the band maintains a massive fanbase. In 2024, they performed only two shows, one of which was a major outdoor concert alongside Deftones at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.
