On Friday, Jun. 13, Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel was sworn in as the honorary head of security for the day at American Dream. Current holder of the position, Anthony Wilson handed the duties over to Daniel in an hour long ceremony.
At the ceremony, representatives from law enforcement agencies across the state presented Daniel with gifts to show their admiration and support for his journey. The agencies in attendance can be found listed below.

- Meadowlands Fire Department
- The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority
- North Bergen Police Department
- NJ Transit Police
- Newark Police Department
- Passaic County Sheriff Department
Daniel was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2018, at the time he was 8 years old. He was given 5 months to live and has continued to defy the doctors’ odds, becoming a symbol of hope and perseverance for many. Daniel’s goal is to become a police officer. He has been sworn in by over 1,000 law enforcement agencies, setting a Guinness World Record.
“We have a real life superhero in the building with us this afternoon,” said Wilson upon Daniel’s arrival. “You will not find a more decorated police officer in our entire nation.”
On top of law enforcement agencies, Daniel was greeted by American Dream staples at the ceremony, including Geoffrey the Giraffe from Toys “R” Us and the mascot for Mr. Beast Burger.
Comedian Tracy Morgan was also in attendance, as a testament to his affection for Daniel’s story. Morgan is one of the millions of hearts that have been touched by his courageous story and for American Dream to be a chapter in it holds much significance for the mall.
