2025 Premier League Summer Series Team Spotlight: Manchester United

The Premier League Summer Series is coming to the Meadowlands in just over a week, with two games taking place on Saturday, July 26. Four English teams will face off in a pair of two matches, one after another. The pre-season friendly tournament offers the team an opportunity to compete without the added pressure of high stakes. The first team competing in the tournament that will be under the spotlight is one of the sport’s most iconic teams, Manchester United.

Manchester United are based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. The club plays in the Premier League, the highest level of English football, as will the three other teams in the tournament. They were founded in 1878 under the name Newton Heath LYR Football Club before changing their name to Manchester United in 1902. The club goes by the nickname the “Red Devils”.

In the over century that the team has spent in the Premier League, they have established themselves as one of the division’s most dominant franchises. They hold a joint-record 20 Premier League titles, sharing the first-place spot with Liverpool. Their accolades stretch far beyond that, however, winning 13 FA Cups, six League Cups, a record 21 FA Community Shields, the UEFA Europa League, the FIFA Club World Cup and many others.

Manchester United play their home games at Old Trafford, where the club has played since 1910. Old Trafford is the second-largest soccer stadium in the world, with a capacity of 74,197. The capacity is fitting, as Manchester United is widely regarded as one of the most popular teams in the Premier League. Their longevity and continued success in the Premier League has allowed them to garner such popularity.

In the 2024-25 Premier League season, Manchester United had one of their most challenging stretches in recent history. The club finished 15th in the standings, holding a record of 11 wins, 9 draws and 18 losses. The club will look to bounce back this season as they prepare to take the field at MetLife Stadium.
