2026 FIFA World Cup MetLife Stadium Spotlight: Harry Kane

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup nears to just a few months away, another star player that is set to head to the Meadowlands for the tournament, is being put in the spotlight. This week, the focus will be on Harry Kane, a striker for England. Entering the tournament, England has a plethora of talented players on the roster, though none have the experience of Kane.

In 2010, Kane signed his first professional professional contract with Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. Still early into his career, Kane was sent to EFL club Leyton Orient on loan through the end of the season. Kane made his first appearance for Tottenham on Aug. 25, 2011, playing in the second leg of the team’s UEFA Europa League qualification against Hearts. On Dec. 15, Kane went on to score his first goal for Tottenham in a 4-0 win against Shamrock Rovers. Two weeks later, Kane joined Championship club Millwall on another loan. During his season with the club, he was named Millwall’s Young Player of the Year for 2011-12.

Kane made his Premier League debut on Aug. 18, 2012, as a substitute against Newcastle United. On Aug. 31, Kane joined Premier League club Norwich City on a season-long loan, which was cut short due to injuries and Tottenham’s need for a striker. Not long after, Kane joined Leicester City for the remainder of their season.

Kane made his first Premier League start for Tottenham on Apr. 7, 2014, which marked the beginning of what would be a historic career with the team. In the match, Kane scored his first Premier League goal and rode the momentum to score in the two following games. On Oct. 23, Kane scored his first professional hat-trick with Tottenham in a win over Asteras Tripolis. At this point, Kane had begun to establish himself as one of the sport’s brightest stars with a successful future ahead of him.

On Feb. 2, 2015, Kane signed a five-and-a-half-year contract to remain at Tottenham. He continued to cement his status as one of the Premier League’s top players, as he was named the Premier League Player of the Month for the third time in March 2016, after scoring five goals in four games. Kane finished the 2015-16 season as the Premier League’s top goalscorer, recording an impressive 25 goals.

The following year, Kane continued to impress, earning the title of the top goalscorer in the Premier League once again, recording an even more impressive 29 goals this time. From 2017 to 2018, Kane scored 56 goals across all competitions becoming Europe’s top goalscorer for the year, ending a streak of seven-year dominance that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo held that honor for. On Feb. 18, 2018, Kane scored his 100th Premier League goal in a 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

During the 2020-21 season, Kane reminded the league of his dominance, finishing as the Premier League’s top goalscorer for the third time and leader in assists. The 2022-23 season was Kane’s last at Tottenham, the club at which he had spent over a decade playing. Before departing, however, Kane left a historic impact, finishing with 280 goals, making him Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer.

In August 2013, Bayern Munich signed Kane to a four-year contract, becoming the most expensive signing in Bundesliga history at €100 million plus €10 million in bonus fees. Kane finished his first season at Bayern Munich as the Bundesliga’s top goalscorer with 36 goals. The following season, Kane earned the honor once again, finishing atop the leaderboard with 30 goals. On Dec. 14, 2025, Kane scored the 474th goal of his career to become the highest-scoring English player in the history of the sport.

After developing into one of the Premier League’s brightest players, on Mar. 19, 2015, Kane was placed on England’s squad to take on Lithuania in a UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying match. Kane made his international debut against Lithuania and scored a goal less than two minutes after taking the field. On June 10, 2017, Kane captained England for the first time in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification.

At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, England fell short, coming in 4th place, however, Kane was named the tournament’s top goalscorer. Four years later, during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Kane helped lead England to the quarter-finals, where they eventually fell to France. Kane currently sits at 5th all time in international appearances for England and is the country’s top goalscorer by a significant margin.

Kane and England will be coming to MetLife Stadium on June 27, 2026 at 5 p.m. to face off against Panama. England is currently ranked as the fourth best team in the world and after falling short several times, Kane will look to add a FIFA World Cup trophy to his already historic resume.
