2026 FIFA World Cup Team Spotlight: Brazil

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is another week closer, which means another team will be put into the spotlight. This week, the team being featured is Brazil, the most successful nation in FIFA World Cup history.

Brazil has won the tournament five times, with their first win coming in 1958 and their most recent in 2002. They are the only team to reach that mark, with Germany and Italy not far behind with 4 each. In addition to their five titles, Brazil also has the most victories of any team in the tournament’s history and is the only team that has participated in every edition of the FIFA World Cup, since its inception in 1930.

Brazil has only finished outside of the top 10 in the tournament twice, finishing in 14th at the 1934 FIFA World Cup and 11th at the 1966 FIFA World Cup. The team currently stands at 7th in the most recent men’s FIFA rankings, cementing their status as one of the top contenders for next year’s tournament.

The team will be led by their new head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who joined the coaching staff on May 26, 2025 and will be looking to lead the team to another title, further extending their historic record. Ancelotti will be aided by the immense talent that lies on Brazil’s squad. Some of their top players include Raphinha, who finished in 5th place for the 2025 Ballon d’Or and Vinícius Jr., who is widely regarded as one of the best left wingers in the world.

On Oct. 14, Brazil played their latest match against Japan in a friendly match. The game ended in a 3-2 loss for Brazil, though there is still plenty of time remaining for the team to continue improving.

Brazil secured one of the six automatic spots for CONMEBOL, sealing their qualification with a 1-0 victory over Paraguay in this past June. They were the first CONMEBOL team to qualify, which represents the sport in South America.

As one of the most storied teams in the history of the tournament, Brazil will have high expectations to live up to for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The last time the tournament was hosted in the United States in 1994, Brazil walked away as the victors and will hope to find that same fate next year. With their talented roster and refurbished coaching staff, the team will look to add onto their historic five titles.
