Bergen County Historical Society Honors History Makers at Fundraising Gala

Join the Bergen County Historical Society at Seasons on Nov. 7 for the Raise the Roof Awards Gala to honor the 2024 NJ history makers and help raise funds for a new museum to preserve regional and national history.

The event runs from 6-10 p.m. and includes dinner, cocktail bar, a preview of the new building project, entertainment, and networking reception. Tickets are $175 for BCHS members and $195 for non-members, which includes a one year BCHS membership.h

Proceeds of the gala will go towards the construction of a new 3,750 sq. ft. Historic New Bridge Landing Visitor Center and Museum. The HNBL Visitor Center and Museum will serve as a building where visitors can be introduced to the history of Bergen County and the influence the communities in the region has played in broader American history. The building is slated for completion in 2026, to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.

The gala will introduce the Bergen County Historical Society’s 2024 NJ History Makers, including:

  • Jim Kirkos, President and CEO of Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce
  • Roger Gross, President and Founder of NIA National Realty
  • Dr. Lisa Tank, Acting President and Chief Hospital Executive at Hackensack University Medical Center and Hackensack Meridian Health
  • Thomas Eastwick, President of Eastwick College and the Ho-Ho-Kus School
  • Jeffrey Vasser, Executive Director of NJ Division of Travel and Tourism (accepted in absentia)
  • Tahesha Way, Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey (invited)

“Our honorees have each made significant contributions to advancing our community and shaping the future of New Jersey and Bergen County,” BCHS Building Chairperson Deborah Powell said in a statement.

“Their leadership and dedication embody the spirit of progress and innovation, aligning with our mission to honor the past and inspire a deeper appreciation for the historical significance of our region. We celebrate their achievements as they continue to make history today,” Powell said.
