Through their partnership with Inserra Supermarkets, Bergen New Bridge Medical Center opened their latest CareRite Now health center on Friday, Jan. 6 in New Milford. The center will provide more convenient access to quality healthcare for residents of the community. This is the second facility to open, with the first CareRite Now center opening in Wallington on Nov. 30 and four more locations planned to open in 2023 in Hackensack, Hillsdale, Lodi and Palisades Park.

The Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) is used to identify crucial issues regarding the overall health of residents within a certain community. Once the key issues are identified, it allows community leaders to establish the steps that must be taken to overcome these problems. Data collected during the 2022 CHNA motivated the opening of the CareRite Now centers, as well as satellite offices in Bergenfield and Paterson. An implementation strategy was also introduced that focused on providing healthcare directly within the communities that New Jersey’s largest hospital resides.
“The Community Health Needs Assessment gave us a very clear picture of what the healthcare challenges are in Bergen County and emphasized the need to provide access to those who are most in need of our care,” said Deborah Visconi, President & CEO, Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. “We are committed to breaking down any barriers that stand in the way of our community receiving the healthcare and services they need, when they need them and most importantly, where they need them.”
Additionally, the CHNA highlighted social determinants that can impact the health of a community as a whole. A few of the determinants listed include:
- Access to transportation
- Safe housing
- Educational and job opportunities
- Income
- Access to healthy food
- Literacy skills
Another result of the latest CHNA is the creation of a Community Health Department, which will allow Bergen New Bridge to be active in community events across the county. The Community Health Department serves various other purposes including managing vaccinations and COVID-19 testing at the Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. In the last year, they have attended events in almost all 70 municipalities in Bergen County.
“The work we’ve done here at Bergen New Bridge has saved the lives of Bergen County residents and at the same time has elevated the health and wellness of those who previously had issues accessing quality healthcare,” said James Tedesco, Bergen County Executive. “Identifying barriers to care is important and we will continue to work on removing these obstacles to bring quality healthcare to all county residents when and where they need it.”
Bergen New Bridge Medical Center has worked relentlessly towards promoting the improvement of overall health in the communities of Bergen County and the opening of their new CareRite Now center in New Milford is their latest move towards accomplishing this goal.
