Yesterday, on May 14, all 32 NFl teams released their schedules for the 2026 NFL season, which includes the New York Giants and Jets, who call the Meadowlands their home. While their opponents were announced months ago, the schedule release tells fans when games will be played and what time slot they possess. For the New York Giants, four of their games are slated to be primetime matchups, while the Jets are without one.
For the New York Jets, it was announced that their first game of the season would be played against the Tennessee Titans. While it is a normal matchup on paper, the history between the members of each team will make for an exciting and highly-anticipated game.

Amidst the 2024 NFL season, then New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh was fired five games into the season following a rough start. Saleh spent last season with the season as a defensive coordinator, but has once again found a head coaching position. Saleh’s new team is the Tennessee Titans, which means that his first coaching appearance since being fired by the Jets will be against them.
The Jets won’t just be facing their old coach, but also many former players, as Saleh brought several familiar faces with him to Tennessee. Some of the current Titans players that used to be on the Jets include John Franklin-Myers, Solomon Thomas, Michael Carter, Tony Adams and Jermaine Johnson.
The game will be the first professional showcase for the Jets’ top picks in this year’s NFL Draft. The Jets selected three first-round players in the draft, which includes edge David Bailey, who was selected with the second overall pick. New offensive weapons, Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr. are also expected to make their NFL debuts in this game. Throwing the ball to them will be quarterback Geno Smith, who will be playing his first game for the team since October 2016.
The Giants were a big story during last year’s NFL season, with Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo proving to be two of the league’s most electric and discussed rookies. With all this attention from the media, in addition to the hiring of new head coach John Harbaugh, it is no surprise that the team will be a primetime staple for next season.
The Giants will open up their season with a primetime matchup on Sept. 13 against the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium for Sunday Night Football. One of the sport’s classic rivalries will be on display in the Giants’ first game, which will be the team’s first game under Harbaugh.
The following week on Sept. 21, the Giants will be travelling to California to take on the Los Angeles Rams for Monday Night Football. Jaxson Dart will battle head-to-head against reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford, looking to kick off a strong sophomore season.
Following their game against the Rams, the Giants will take a break from the national spotlight for a few months, returning on Nov. 12 for Thursday Night Football. The game will be played against another divisional rival in the Washington Commanders and will take place at MetLife Stadium.
For the Giants’ final primetime game of the 2026 NFL season, the team will be travelling to take on the Detroit Lions on Dec. 28. With the game just weeks from the end of the season, it could have significant playoff implications for the Giants, a team that could be in contention this year, thanks to a young, talented core and a new, established head coach.
Football season is beginning to creep up in the Meadowlands, with there being only a few more months until the season starts. Both the Jets and Giants are in store for exciting seasons, with both teams possessing many young, up-and-coming players to keep fans entertained.
