Custom Wrap for America’s 250th Anniversary, River Line Upgrades Among New Moves at NJ Transit

As the new year rolls in, NJ Transit is continuing its hard work to provide the best possible customer experience for commuters across the Garden State. NJ Transit has continued to perform upgrades on the systems and equipment on the River LINE, as it continues to take over operations and maintenance from the current contractor.

“As we finalize the process of assuming operation of the River LINE, every upgrade we’re making is focused on improving reliability, communications and the customer experience,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kris Kolluri. “This work builds on the systemwide modernization already underway across our bus and rail fleets, as we also maintain an equal commitment to investing in the quality of commute for our light rail customers.”

Kolluri was recently joined by NJ Transit Police Chief Christopher Trucillo and Senator Troy Singleton as he unveiled the first vehicle to feature a fully renovated passenger compartment, as well as a complete engine overhaul. To celebrate America’s 250th birthday, the first vehicle is wrapped in graphics celebrating the occasion.

As part of the transition as NJ Transit takes control of the River LINE, the NJ Transit Board of Directors authorized the company into a contract with Kinisharyo International LLC for the maintenance of the line’s fleet vehicles. The moves being made will help NJ Transit position themselves to improve and adapt to any future needs.

One of the goals of the partnership is to rehabilitate the interior passenger areas of the vehicles. Some of the other improvements include new LED lighting, replaced seating, new flooring, updated signage and other upgrades to enhance the services offered by NJ Transit. All light rail vehicles will also be inspected to ensure that they remain in optimal condition. As a part of the program, 14 light rail vehicles are set to be upgraded.

In addition to all of the prior improvements, NJ Transit has installed real-time arrival information on the River LINE platforms. The series of upgrades and maintenance made by NJ Transit outlines their commitment to ensuring a high quality of experience for commuters in and around New Jersey.
