It’s Go Time: Businesses Strategize in Meadowlands as FIFA World Cup™ Nears

As we step into 2026, one phrase keeps coming to mind: It’s Go Time.

For decades, the Meadowlands has been defined by momentum — by its ability to evolve, adapt, and seize opportunity. As someone who has spent a career focused on leadership and entrepreneurship, I believe the role of a Chamber of Commerce is clear: identify opportunity, create leverage, and advocate relentlessly for our members, the business community, and the region we serve.

That mission has never felt more urgent — or more exciting — than it does right now.

Global Spotlight on the Meadowlands

This summer, the world comes to our backyard.

Murray the Egret is the Meadowlands Chamber’s new mascot.

With eight FIFA World Cup 2026TM matches scheduled for MetLife Stadium in June and July, the Meadowlands will be showcased on a truly global stage. More than 1.2 million tourists and visitors are expected to visit our region during the games, and half won’t have tickets but still want the experience.

The economic impact can be tremendously positive for local businesses in the Meadowlands region. We want to impress, keep tourists on this side of the Hudson, and help our local businesses showoff. This isn’t just a one-off event; it’s an unparalleled opportunity to boost long-term tourism and bring people back again.

Along with Meadowlands Live! Visitors and Convention Center, we are continuing to serve as a direct conduit between our members and the NY/NJ World Cup Host Committee, sharing timely information on ticketing, official events, and business-facing opportunities.

We’re also helping members navigate the official FIFA Community Engagement Toolkit and applications for FIFA-approved branding. Our goal is to help ensure our businesses can take advantage of every opportunity and participate confidently and compliantly.

Authentically Meadowlands From Matches to Mementoes

Activations are a significant opportunity for New Jersey businesses during the matches at MetLife Stadium. Offering direct fan engagement and brand visibility can increase local foot traffic and spending in the short and long term.

Liberty State Park in Jersey City will host the region’s main FIFA Fan Festival and serve as a destination for all match viewings, concerts, and festivities throughout the tournament. The state park will also feature family-friendly entertainment, interactive games, local food vendors, official merchandise, and VIP hospitality experiences.

Flag Cities fan zones will be held across the greater Meadowlands region. The presenting sponsor is Goya, and the event is being produced by Axiom Communications.

  • Cultural Immersion: Flags will be installed to correspond to matches, cultural activations, and pep rallies.
  • Food & Beverage: Food trucks, international cuisine, area favorites, beer gardens with local brews.
  • Entertainment: Live music, DJs, community performances.
  • Family Fun: Family-friendly activities, kid zones, surprises

Businesses can tap into this by hosting watch parties, offering unique experiences, creating themed promotions, and leveraging the influx of international visitors and media attention to boost sales and build lasting brand equity.

In the days leading up to Group Round matches, the MC will promote Flag Cities and the associated community-driven fan festivals. These celebrations take the World Cup experience off the field and into our towns, highlighting local culture, hospitality, and entrepreneurship. Visitors will experience FOMO if they leave the Meadowlands region too soon.

Flag City Watch Parties are scheduled:

⚽ Friday, June 12 – Riverside County Park, Lyndhurst
⚽ Sunday, June 14 – Overpeck Park, Bergen County
⚽ Sunday, June 21 – Secaucus Downtown
⚽ Wednesday, June 24 – Location to be announced
⚽ Friday, June 26 – East Rutherford Downtown

To unify these efforts, we launched Kick26, a regional World Cup brand created specifically for the greater Meadowlands region. Community-driven and anchored by our playful mascot, Murray the Egret, Kick26 lives on our e-commerce store, offering affordable apparel, gifts, and souvenirs that celebrate the Meadowlands region’s identity.

Business, Networking, and Front-Row Access

The Chamber’s headquarters will also play an active role during the tournament. We’ll host a series of World Cup Watch Parties at MCHQ, giving members a chance to connect, network, and enjoy the matches together — at no cost to our members.

Watch Party at Meadowlands Chamber Headquarters

For select games, MCHQ will be available as a private corporate suite for up to 125 guests, offering businesses a unique way to entertain clients and partners at one of the world’s largest sporting events.

Behind the scenes, we continue to meet weekly with planning entities and regional partners to stay informed and ensure our members receive firsthand, actionable insights as opportunities arise.

Convention Center: Thinking Bigger Than 2026

While the World Cup is a once-in-a-generation moment, it’s not our only focus.

We continue to advance the vision of a world-class, multi-use convention center at the Meadowlands Sports Complex — an initiative with a documented $30 billion economic impact. This project has the potential to reshape the region’s business landscape, creating jobs, driving tourism, and supporting small and mid-sized enterprises for decades to come.

A comprehensive scoping assessment, funded by the Murphy Administration, is underway to provide the next administration with the data needed to make informed decisions on advancing this transformative concept.

Investing in Leadership — and Each Other

Because economic growth is only sustainable if we invest in people, we are expanding our Leadership Initiative in 2026. We mentor emerging leaders across numerous business and nonprofit sectors while reinforcing the importance of civic engagement and community involvement.

And through it all, our core mission remains unchanged: delivering high-impact business education, fostering meaningful relationships, and advocating for our members.

Opportunity, Leadership, Horsepower

The measure of success and regional impact will be analyzed long after the grass is rolled up at the stadium, the signage is changed, and August concertgoers fill seats vacated by soccer fans.

What will we build upon this once-in-a-lifetime experience? How will we sustain momentum and collaboration, and keep up the energy? It’s critical we continue to position the Meadowlands for what comes next. And it takes all hands on deck.

Bottom Line? We Are All About You

All of this momentum stems from our continued commitment to delivering a full calendar of business education, relationship-building, and networking programs. When we keep the engines humming and our members connected, everyone wins, and our community grows bigger, stronger, and more influential.

We want to hear from you. Your ideas, your ambitions, and your insights matter.

It’s Go Time.

And I couldn’t be more energized about what we can accomplish together.
