The warmth and spirit of community and compassion are coming together on Sunday, Sept. 10 for the annual “Sip for Safety” fundraiser honoring the memory of beloved Rutherford first grade teacher Michele Sabia of Carlstadt.
From 4:30-7:30 p.m., people can mingle to the backdrop of live music while enjoying a specially-curated selection of wine and beer, plus an appetizer tasting table. The event takes place at the Williams Center, Williams Plaza, Rutherford, New Jersey.
Funds raised benefit the Center for Hope and Safety, Bergen County’s only not-for-profit agency that helps adults and children who are victims of domestic abuse and violence.
Michele Sabia was shot by her husband on the front lawn of their Carlstadt home in July 2016, while their two young children were inside. Her husband, Scott Sabia, then killed himself.
Michele’s father, Pete Miragliotta, is a Center for Hope & Safety board member and advocate for domestic violence prevention and awareness.
The Sip for Safety event also includes a gallery of artwork from survivors of domestic violence.
