Flag Cities’ second event is set to take place on Sunday, June 14, as the 2026 FIFA World Cup fever heads to Overpeck Park in Bergen County. Flag Cities is one of the most exciting and engaging events coming to the Meadowlands for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring celebrations throughout Bergen County, Passaic County and Essex County.
There will be a total of seven Flag Cities events taking place across northern New Jersey, with Overpeck Park’s stop being the second event, following Jersey City a few days prior. Each Flag Cities event takes place in the days leading up to a 2026 FIFA World Cup match being played at MetLife Stadium. For Overpeck Park’s event, the game following the event will be taking place on June 16, as France and Senegal face off.
However, there will also be World Cup matches taking place on the day of Flag Cities. It provides fans with the opportunity to enjoy the game, while also being treated to all of the entertainment that the event has to offer.
The two games being highlighted during the event are Germany vs. Curacao, which starts at 1 p.m. and Netherlands vs. Japan, which begins at 4 p.m. Netherlands and Germany are ranked as top-10 teams in the world by FIFA, in addition to Japan being ranked at 18th, highlighting the immense talent that will be on display during the matches.
With all of the entertainment from the matches, there is even more set to take place at the event. Performing at Overpeck Park will be The Royal Scam, one of Steely Dan’s most renowned tribute bands. The soft-rock tribute band has been performing for over 30 years, playing Steely Dan’s classic hits to sold-out crowds and will now be making their way to Overpeck Park.
Overpeck Park spans over 805 acres and is Bergen County’s premier destination for outdoor recreational activities. Some of the park’s features include picnic areas, a children’s playground, five miles of walking trails and much more.
Two days later, on June 16, reigning FIFA World Cup runner-ups, France, will take on Senegal at MetLife Stadium. France is currently ranked as the best team in the world by FIFA, with Senegal not far behind at the No. 14 spot. The match is the second one set to come to the Meadowlands and it is sure to bring the star power, including stars such as Kylian Mbappé and Sadio Mané.
The goal of Flag Cities is to celebrate the countries that are playing in the biggest sporting event in the world. With vendors, live music, food trucks and more, it gives fans the chance to immerse themselves in the 2026 FIFA World Cup experience, as the tournament takes over the region.
