MetLife Stadium has the week off, as both teams will be on the road this Sunday, but the football action isn’t stopping yet. The New York Giants will be travelling to face the Philadelphia Eagles, a fellow NFC East opponent, while the New York Jets will be visiting the 2024 Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs. As both teams take the field on Sunday, Nov. 8, the region is in store for some electrifying football action.
New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles, 1 p.m.
Following their bye week, the New York Giants are coming into Philadelphia rejuvenated and prepared to kick the second half of their season off on the right note. The Giants currently stand at first place in the NFC East with a record of 4-2-1, while the Eagles are on the other end of the standings, in last place with a 2-6 record. The Giants will look to further that divide and their divisional lead.
The game marks quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s second start for the Giants, as he looks to build off the momentum of the team’s 27-21 win in his first start. In that game, McCarthy threw for 252 yards, including 111 of which went to the team’s star wide receiver, Malik Nabers. Giants runningback Cam Skattebo also had an impressive game, rushing for 124 yards, including a game-sealing 42-yard run.
The Eagles boast the fifth-worst running defense in terms of yardage, allowing 131.9 rushing yards per game. For Skattebo, this is a promising trend, as he and the rest of the Giants running back room looks to take advantage of an Eagles defense that has struggled against the run this season.
Under the leadership of coach John Harbaugh in his first season with the team, the Giants have transformed into a playoff contender, looking to maintain their spot atop the NFC East standings. The team will look to keep their momentum going strong into the second half of the season.
New York Jets vs. Kansas City Chiefs, 1 p.m.
The New York Jets are travelling to take on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, one of the NFL’s most formidable dynasties over the past decade. For the Jets, it is the same as any other game and the team has already faced its fair share of talented opponents so far this season.
The Jets offense is coming off one of its best performances of the season last week against the Raiders, looking to replicate it once again this week. The performance saw quarterback Geno Smith passing for 290 yards and two touchdowns, running back Braelon Allen rushing for 147 yards and a touchdown and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell recording 142 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Going into this week, the Jets will be without star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who is entering concussion protocol. The Jets still have many young offensive weapons to turn to, including Mitchell and Allen, who are both coming off of career games, in addition to first-round picks Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr.
The Chiefs boast one of the best records in the NFL, though the team is coming off back-to-back disheartening losses. Two weeks ago, the Chiefs lost to the Seattle Seahawks in a game that saw their offense being shut down. Last week, the Chiefs seemed as though they had moved on and were playing well against the Denver Broncos, however, 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter from the Broncos propelled them to a win.
The Chiefs are desperately searching to avoid losing a third game in a row, facing a Jets team that is also hungry for a win. Without their star player, the Jets offense will look to build off its performance from last week and continue to find the endzone against opposing teams.
Both teams will be on the road this week, taking the field at 1 p.m. this Sunday, in search of victory as the season reaches its halfway point. As the Giants look to take down a division rival, the Jets are hoping to defeat a perennial playoff team this Sunday.
