Coming off a huge win in Week 9, the Jets were looking to keep their momentum going heading into this past week, as the Giants looked to get back into the win column against a Panthers team that has struggled this season. Unfortunately, neither team was able to pick up a win this week, causing their playoff odds to drop as we pass the halfway mark for the regular season.
Jets Lose 31-6 to Commanders
Hoping to continue the momentum they gained in their Halloween victory over the Texans, the Jets were hoping to win two games in a row for the first time this season against the Cardinals in an away matchup in Arizona. However, a Cardinals touchdown on the first drive of the game proved that it would be an uphill battle. The Jets were able to fight back and score a field goal on their first drive, but the Cardinals offense was relentless scoring another touchdown on their second drive.
The Jets responded back with another field goal to make it 14-6, but the Cardinals responded with a third straight touchdown in addition to a field goal to close out the first half, making it 24-6 after the first half. The Jets’ defensive struggles to contain the Cardinals’ offense, as well as their inability to find the endzone, was proving crucial in this game.
The second half started off poorly for the Jets, who fumbled and allowed the Cardinals to score another touchdown once they got back on offense. For the rest of the game, the score would stay the same, with the Jets falling to the Cardinals by a score of 31-6, removing their momentum from last week.
Giants Lose to Panthers 20-17 on OT Thriller in Germany
Just a few weeks ago, the Panthers were one of the weakest teams in the NFL, but after a win over the Saints last week, a momentum shift gave them better odds to defeat the Giants. However, the Giants were still hoping to earn a victory in their matchup.
The Panthers got off to a hot start, carrying a 10-0 lead into halftime, with the Giants offense seemingly stumped by the Panthers defense. Daniel Jones was seemingly unable to find the endzone and an interception and a missed field goal halted the Giants’ scoring opportunities.
The Giants finally found the endzone on their first drive of the second half, making it a 10-7 game, but the Panthers immediately responded back with a touchdown of their own. Another Giants touchdown at the start of the 4th quarter made it a 3-point game, which the Giants were able to turn into a tie game thanks to a last-second 42-yard field goal from Graham Gano. As the game headed into overtime, Giants RB Tyrone Tracy fumbled on the first play, giving the Panthers great field position. They proceeded to kick a close field goal, which put the game away and put an end to the Giants’ comeback in Germany.
What to Look for Next Week
The Jets will be returning to MetLife Stadium this week to take on the Indianapolis Colts, who recently announced that Anthony Richardson would be returning to his role as starting quarterback. For the Jets, the implications for this game can be huge, hoping to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win. The Giants will be able to get some rest after this week’s game in Germany, as they are currently on their bye week, preparing to take on the Buccaneers next week.
