Football in the Meadowlands Week 12 Preview: New York Jets Search for Bounce-Back Win Against Ravens, Giants Face Off Against Detroit Lions This Sunday

This week, the Meadowlands is in store for more exciting football, though MetLife Stadium will be emptier than usual this Sunday. Both the Giants and the Jets will be on the road for their contests this week, as they take on two strong teams.

New York Jets vs. Baltimore Ravens

The New York Jets will be traveling to Baltimore this week to take on the 5-5 Ravens. While their record may not show it, the Ravens are one of the most dangerous teams in the AFC, with plenty of talent on their roster. The Jets will enter their matchup against them as significant underdogs, though there’s always the chance for an upset.

It was recently announced that Tyrod Taylor will be starting at the quarterback position for the Jets this week, taking over for Justin Fields. In the Jets’ 27-14 loss to the Patriots last Thursday, Fields recorded a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown, though was unable to keep the momentum going any further into the game. As the season gets deeper, the Jets are continuing to experiment with different lineups that will best benefit the team.

The Jets will hope that Taylor can get more production out of some of the team’s newest offensive players. New acquisitions, wide receivers AD Mitchell and John Metchie III combined for a total of nine targets in the Jets’ most recent game. Rookie Mason Taylor has also been looking to continue improving his production to the team, developing himself into a potential offensive threat for the Jets. Going against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens will put more pressure on the offense to put points on the board, where Tyrod Taylor will look to deliver.

New York Giants vs. Detroit Lions

The 6-4 Lions, similarly to the Ravens, should not let their record take away from the talent that they yield. The Giants will go into their matchup against the Lions with some uncertainty at the quarterback position, as breakout rookie Jaxson Dart remains in concussion protocol, but could play as soon as this Sunday. The Giants are also significant underdogs entering this week’s game.

If Dart is unable to play this weekend, Jameis Winston will likely play his second game for the Giants. Last week, Winston made his debut with the team and put up over 200 passing yards, though narrowly lost to the Green Bay Packers by a score of 27-20. Giants running back Devin Singletary put up solid numbers for the team in their last performance, recording 44 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The Giants put up a good fight against the Packers last week and will look to do the same this week against another NFC North opponent. With Dart or Winston, the team will need to play stellar football to secure a win against the Lions.

Both the Jets and the Giants will be playing at the same time on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m., though, both teams will be away. As the underdogs, the odds are not in either team’s favor but they have shown countless times that they are always capable of pulling off an upset.
